Brothers' Day 2005

Another great celebration of brotherhood this year!! The boys celebrated the special bond that comes with having a brother as a best friend with dinner on Friday night at our favorite place -- Taqueria la Tapitia, and by heading out to the Circus again this year. I bought tickets the day they went on sale and got just about the best seats in the house -- front row, center ring -- and their eyes were as wide as I've ever seen them for two hours straight. We got there a bit early to be able to see the animals, which was presented better this year than last. The area didn't seem so crowded, and there was more room to roam among the exhibits. No hands-on stations, though. But it wasn't billed as a petting zoo!

We got the kids each a bag of cotton candy -- complete with a silly clown hat. Jackson had developed an odd fear of clowns (basically came out of nowhere about 6 months ago), so he was a little worried about being around so many. We told him that the special hat would be a 'clown repellant' and that they would leave him alone. Of course, that idea went out the window on the big opening act parade when one of the clowns walked down the row high-fiving everyone... Porter and Jackson were both a little hesitant, but after that, they didn't have a care in the world about the clowns -- they just loved watching them same as they have in the past.

After the show we headed back to the house for a bit to rest up, and then they headed over to Carolyn's to swim. She had their cousin Tommy for the weekend and the three of them had a busy, full afternoon of swimming. When the day was all said and done, it was clear that the best thing that they did to celebrate was to spend the whole day with eachother, doing what brothers do on a crazy, sometimes lazy, but always fun summer day in Houston.

Happy Brothers's Day, Porter and Jackson!!
