Donuts and Hearts

Happy Valentine's Day!!

Today was about much more than just cards and flowers, though -- it was Donuts with Dad at Porter's class this morning. We started off the day quick around the house and got everyone (including me) ready to go and out the door on time. I took the boys to school today, since I was one of the guests of honor in Porter's class. The boys always love riding in the Mini, and we listened to a little Green Day on the way. No better way to start the morning right than with a little punk rock...

Once we got there, I dropped them off and parked, then headed into the gym to wait until it was our turn to walk to class. Porter held my hand the whole way to make sure I didn't get lost.

Once we got there, the Dads had to wait outside the classroom while the kids got settled and prepared. One-by-one we all were presented with our King's Crowns -- and honestly, mine was the best. Really. It was super-decorated; more than any other! Everyone said that I looked ready for Mardi Gras -- and I felt regal!

Porter and his class served us donuts and coffee, and they joined us with their own donut holes and milk -- Porter was sad since someone forgot to bring the OJ -- he loves his juice...

After that, they put on a little show of songs and then we all hugged / thanked and headed out to our work days. Wonderful all around, and I loved spending the time with Pid and his class.

The rest of the day was anti-climatic from there -- I just spent time at the office on calls and working on resource issues. I'm in 'hiring mode' trying to expand our practice to keep up with the business; and I am trying to help focus the sales staff on exactly what we want to sell and have the ability to deliver -- it's a tightrope.

This evening I had hoped to take everyone to the taqueria, but both Pid and Jackson had afterschool fun activities (Porter to a friends; Jackson and Katie to the library and then visiting a sick classmate) and that ran late. By the time they got home, it was clear they were wasted tired; and at any rate, Charlie Brown Valentine's show was on, and they couldn't miss that!! We ordered Nit Noi and promised to do a night out this weekend.

Busy week this week -- Monday was Tulsa (sucky trip; worst sales meeting I have ever been in); Wed is an all-day conference in HOU; Thurs is Dallas; Fri is Tulsa. Just thinking about it makes me tired!! But it's what I tossed my hat into the ring for, so that's life at work now -- in the long run, it's worth it as long as I can balance / respect / honor family and friends at the same time. Time will tell.
