Week 15
Well, Katie's back in town, and she
brought back a virus! She got back from Oklahoma on Friday afternoon.
By Saturday night, she was totally out of it. Then I started
coming down with the bug on Sunday. Basically, it's a deep hacking
cough -- with killer headaches.
In other news, we had a "wake-up
call" on Saturday -- baby furniture. We bopped around the
town just casually checking out the wares. I guess it's like
anything else in life, there is such a wide variety, you can
basically get whatever you want. Well, we found a couple of nice
pieces that will really fit in with the rest of our house, so
we were feeling pretty good about ourselves. Then we found out
the timeline: if we don't order it all in the next 2 weeks, we'll
have an empty baby room when the baby comes!
Things just move so fast --

As I sit here writing, Katie's home
sick, relaxing and on the phone with her mom. She's really had
a hard time with the virus. Saturday afternoon she took a long
nap and when she got up, she started crying because her head
hurt so bad. She just felt miserable: body aches, sore throat,
cough and trouble breathing. She called the doctor on Monday
and they told her what she already knew: take Extra Strength
Tylenol and Robitussim. That's about it.
From the journal: Morning sickness
is waining and she's feeling pretty good in general. Snickers
and other candy bars seem to be the cravings of the moment. (She
really liked the chocolate / caramel / popcorn bar candy I got
her for Valentines.) She's getting better about sleeping through
the night -- except for being sick -- and she sometimes feels
fat and not very pretty.

It's week 15 and everything is humming
right along. The bulge is definately noticible, and according
to the books, the baby should be moving around enough to notice
(if you know what to feel for).
What do the experts say? Here's the
scoop, from Baby Center
How your baby's growing: The big news
this week is hair. Your baby is growing lots of it now--on his
head, eyebrows, and all over his body. In fact, he's covered
in an ultrafine down, called lanugo, that usually disappears
before birth. Some of your baby's muscles are starting to work
now too. This week he can grasp, squint, frown, and grimace.
He may even be able to suck his thumb.

Last week was just a long series of
long days and longer nights. With all the social stuff going
on, plus work and my short story class, it kept me busy enough
to not be too lonely with Katie out of town. It was tough to
not know what was going on with her and the baby though. And
I did get tired of the constant "go, go, go" of the
week. I guess I'm getting used to the idea of having a family.
Things like looking for furniture and
planning on redecorating have also made the pregnancy more real
for me. I don't go through the constant reminders and changes
like Katie does, so things have to be a bit more real-world for
me. And I like that.
Hopefully we'll get over this virus
soon and get to having fun with the pregnancy. I hear that the
middle months are really the best!
And the Beat Goes On . . .
Check back next week --
