Well, it's officially Y2K all over the world!

Thankfully, nothing major happened anywhere in the world -- no terrorism, nuclear explosions, or planes dropping from the sky and all . . . But we did have a wonderful time over the holidays.

Christmas

My dad came in town over the Christmas holidays. He drove over from Baton Rouge about mid-day on Thursday so he wouldn't get caught in any of the holiday traffic. That evening, I made up a pot of red beans and rice and we all just hung out and wrapped presents, getting ready for all the activities.

Mom, Row and Myra ended up going to Tallulah for a few days before Christmas and drove home on Christmas Eve. As for our household, we ended up doing a little last minute shopping on Friday and then went over to Tim and Christina's house for a little Mullen family fun. Once we got home, it was time for Jackson to get to bed -- and for Santa to come!

Christmas morning we got up early and fixed some cinnamon rolls and rushed into the living room to see what Santa had left for Jackson -- a new pack-n-play, some clothes and some music he likes! Dad, Katie, Jackson and I spent the next hour or so gathered around in the living room, sharing presents and enjoying the morning.

Around mid morning, Mom, Row and Myra came over and we did the whole thing all over again! After all the boxes were opened and the wrapping paper put away, we sat down to a nice fat ham -- with sweet potatoes, stuffing and broccoli and rice casserole.

That afternoon, Myra hung out with Dad and we Katie, Jackson and I went over to Carolyn's to see all of Katie's family. We stayed over there until pretty late -- Dad had gone with Myra to see her boyfriend Kenneth -- and we all played a marathon game of Monopoly around Carolyn's dining table.

Soon enough, though, it was time to get home and put a pleasant end to Jackson's first Christmas. It was a pretty good one, in my view.

New Year's

The week in between Christmas and New Years we really didn't do much -- just enjoyed a little time off! Of course, I had a few things to do for work (getting some folks Y2K compliant at the last minute and all . . .)

On Thursday before New Year's Eve, we packed up the car and drove to the lake to spend the new year with Mom and Row. After a minor glitch (I had to drive all the way back to Houston to get Katie's pump that I forgot to pack) we settled in for a nice relaxing weekend.

On New Year's Eve, Katie and I went over to my friend Dow's farm -- just a little ways away from Mom's house -- and hung out for a couple of hours. Drinking, pitching washers, tossing wood on the fire -- and firecrackers in the air! Pretty fun! After that, we went back to Mom's and had a great crawfish pie that Mom and Row had made, relaxed on the sofa and waited for the new millennium to reach Texas.

At about 11:30, I looked around the living room and noticed that I was the only one awake -- but they all got up in time. By 12:30, they were all asleep. It took me a couple more hours to wind down, but I was in bed by 2:30 -- and slept until 10 this morning!

Well, it's a good year so far -- and last year was just fine in my book. Here's wishing you all a safe, happy and prosperous new year!
