Porter's 2 now!
I think I could chart his approach to '2' by the growth in his 'independent'
additude -- He's becoming quite the outspoken individual . . . But
that's all a part of growing into himself.
On his birthday,
we all went to Tokyohana -- a Japanese sushi bar / grill where they
do a full-blown cullinary show right at the table (like Benihana).
I wasn't sure they'd be into it when we first came up with the idea,
but boy was I wrong! Jackson and Porter LOVED it!! They were so impressed
by the flames, knife skills, cooking -- the whole thing. It really
made a nice evening for all of us. Carolyn joined us and rounded out
the group -- always a nice addition.
Yesterday we
had Porter's official party with his friends to celebrate -- at McDonald's!
Again, you may not have expected us to do the McDonald's party thing,
but it was perfect!! McD's is Porter's favorite meal, and favorite
place to play. He had the best time I can imagine -- running all around
with friends to play with on the slides and tunnels. They had cheesburgers,
McNuggets, fries, sodas, cake and ice cream. And Mom and Dad didn't
have to clean up!
Myra came into
town this weekend to see us, and spend time with Porter for his special
day. Kenneth had to work -- Saturday night is kinda key to his work
week, and it's alot to ask him to miss that, so I'm glad he stayed
and worked. We ordered Nit Noi last night and watched a DVD -- just
a casual night at home after the kids went to sleep.
As for the other
huge news for the day, the shuttle explosion breaks my heart. We have
so much pain in our country for now, and this is just added sorrow
and tears.
I got up yesterday
morning and glanced at the headlines on the internet and noticed a
blurb about NASA losing contact with the shuttle on its descent. I
didn't think much about it -- space flight has just become second-nature
now, so no big deal. I went about playing with the kids, getting the
rest of their breakfast down them, and straightening up the house.
The kids were watching The House of Mouse. Katie came home from working
out and we just chatted and piddled around -- and as I walked past
the computer, I noticed the big story that was on all the other TV
channels, but not ours, thanks to cartoons. I was speechless -- stunned.
Katie said, "Oh, I forgot to tell you . . . I watched that at
the club -- I thought you knew."
Well, this one
was just a horrible accident -- no purposeful destruction -- but it's
still a shock.
Anyway, Katie
hugged me as we watched some of the coverage, and she said that she
was sorry for some of the rough times lately. Me too --
