In the past few weeks, I've had a birthday, we've baptized Porter, our hot water heater broke, I cooked beans at a bbq cookoff, and I had to sit through way to many hours of 'continuing legal education' so that I can maintain my law license.

That about covers the waterfront on things that anyone could do as a normal part of life!

Now for the details: On Sunday last week, we were proud to present our new son, Porter, to the church and, along with god-parents Julie and Travis Osborne, promised to raise him properly and teach him about God. It was also my birthday -- and I can't imagine a more honorable thing to do on a birthday than have my son baptized.

Basically, we just hung around in the morning on Sunday, and when it was time to go to the church, Mom, Row, Travis, Julie and the four of us all headed out. Myra and Kenneth met us there, as did Carolyn, Laura, her mom Linda, and little Spencer. Afterwards, we came home and had some snacks and drinks, and basically just socialized.

As for the bbq cook off, well, that was the week before. I was originally supposed to make seafood gumbo for Friday night, then make the 'competition' beans for Saturday. Then, they changed their minds about me making the beans, so I was just going to go up on Friday afternoon, make gumbo, and then go home. Well, they changed their minds again, so I ended up staying the night and making beans after all. We didn't win, though -- but the beans were still good . . .

Between then and my birthday, the hot water heater broke for good -- we knew there was a problem (slow leak) but it finally crapped out all together. Anyway, I got a $600 hot water heater for my birthday.

The only real interesting thing of note was the CLE class I had to (1) pay through the nose for; and (2) actually attend. It wasn't as bad as it could have been, though. The topic was Helping Clients with the Internet and eBusniess -- and took 2 days. I got some good stuff to think about, but for the most part, it just reminded me why I decided to give up practicing the law!

So, coming up is Easter, of course, and a trip to Atlanta for some Java classes, a quickie trip to Austin to do my fantasy baseball draft, and hopefully a trip or two to Enron Field to see the Astros. I'll keep you posted --
