Today is an absolutely
solid, beautiful day in Houston! We got up this morning, took the
boys out for a little window shopping and a bite of lunch and have
truly enjoied the morning -- warm, sunny and all-around nice.
This is the type
of day that makes you want to grill out on the deck, make a few margaritas
and live it up outside -- which is what we plan on doing this evening!
We went to Central Market and got a really nice ribeye steak, a good
looking salmon filet, some veggies and the like, and right now they're
marinating for later on.
Days like today
put the rest of the time in prespective: It's been a rough few weeks,
but the heart of the matter is that some things are important, and
some things aren't. It also reminds me of the Serinity Prayer everyone
who knows an alcoholic learns to find comfort in. For the past few
weeks, sometimes I've forgotten that, frankly, there are some things
I can't do a damn bit to change. But there's a whole lot I can do
to make my part of my life more fun, more full of friendship, and
immensely more loving.
My two little
boys bring much of that fun and love into my life -- as does my wife.
Porter's started walking now (after the junk got a chance to drain
out of his ears, with the help of those tubes) and watching him discover
all the things we take for granted is refreshing. Porter has a smile
for me every time I see him and it's revitalizing to know that we're
capable -- every one of us -- of the well-spring of love he has for
me, his mom and his brother.
Anyway, I've
been busy lately: work is kicking into high gear out at Dynegy; I
got a promotion and raise recently (so that I wouldn't go work for
another company that was courting me); the last few people that could
try to sue us for debts relating to Brew U have finally stepped up
and made life difficult (Don't ask me about this -- I'm just putting
it down for my own sake, like a journal. I really don't want to get
into it, though, so just forget about that part); Katie and I were
in a Texans / ABC 13 commercial to premier soon; and we're making
a list of all the things that we need to do around the house to keep
it up maintenance-wise; and I had a birthday, anti-climatic as it
was.
Baseball season
is back in full swing now, too, and I got to watch (on TV) the Astros
lose to the Cardnials last night -- but as they say, a bad day at
the baseball game is better than a good day at work . . . or something
like that. I've got tickets to a few games so far, and I'll pick up
more later to round out trips to 10 or so games this year. I'd love
to have season tickets sometime, but I don't think I'd ever be able
to get to every game -- maybe one to each home-stand. I think that
would be perfect!
Well, too much
of sitting here on a beautiful day in Houston, TX -- I've got to run
have fun before the weekend turns into the work week again!
