I think I still
smell like Mesquite smoke from this weekend's barbecue, which isn't
such a bad thing!
Boy, has the
past week been one to remember -- or quickly forget -- on so many
fronts. Work has been whirlwind, including my giving a technical presentation
to a local Macromedia User's Group. Between working on healthcare
industry tech regs for a special team at work, preparing for that
other presentaion, and driving to Dallas starting at 4 in the morning
last Thursday for a meeting, I'm a bit beat. But that's fine by me
-- it beats the alternative . . .
Of course all
that was in a short week, too -- but having the Memorial Day holiday
in the beginning of the week didn't mean that there was less to do.
As for Memorial Day, we spent the weekend before last at the lake
with Mimi and Papaw -- and we stopped by my buddy Dow's farm for a
while on Sunday, too. In all, it was pretty uneventful, except for
the fact that everyone but us got a 'touch' of food poisioning on
Monday morning. Not wanting it to rub off on us, we packed up and
headed out early.
Once the full
work week was over, though, the weekend festivities began. We had
been planning on having a BBQ for our friends and neighbors for a
while, and it all went off withour a hitch. I made it by Goode Co.
on Friday afternoon to get a bag of wood (50 lbs mesquite) and some
sauce for Saturday. I got the fire going about 10 and by 11 the briskets
were seasoned and on the pit for a day of slow smoking. Chicken and
sausage went on in their good time, and by the time everyone started
arriving, we had a pit full of fantastic stuff -- a true Meat Fest!
I tapped a keg
of beer my sister had brought me from Austin a few weeks back, and
between the 25 or so people here on Saturday, we managed to finish
it off pretty well. Of course, we didn't let the kids drink too much
of it . . .
Sunday was the
traditional 'day of rest' and day of cleaning up after the party,
but it wasn't particularly bad.
As far as the
kids are going, they're both getting so big == Porter had a check
up on Thursday, checked out fine, and is starting on cereal now. Jackson,
of course, is starting on Jalapeno Cheese Venison Summer Sausage --
that I brought back from Dallas. He wouldn't take my word for it that
it wasn't something he'd be interested in when he saw me eating it,
so I gave him some. He ate it and liked it! Guess he didn't really
get any peppers, though.
Anyway, I put
the new jog stroller together this week (finally) and Katie's using
it with both the boys. She says that it's like night and day between
this one and the one she's been using. (Once Porter was able to sit
up straight by himself, we could move to this stroller.)
So now it's trips
to the park in style for Katie and the boys -- and with much less
effort, at least in the pushing.
Enough for today
-- coming up soon: Father's Day, and trips to the ballpark.
