The word for
the day is CROUP -- as in, "Porter has a croupy cough,"
or "I think Jackson is catching Porter's croup." According
to the medical experts (Dr. Rowland and a flyer she sent home with
Porter yesterday) croup is basically a viral bug, gives you a nasty
cough, and makes it hard to breath. To me, it sounds like a really
bad cough that gets into your lungs. Well, needless to say, Porter's
not very happy -- and luckily, Jackson only has a touch of it at this
point.
Speaking of Jackson,
I took him to his very first real movie yesterday -- Disney's "Lilo
and Stitch." It was great!!! The movie was very good (don't listen
to the critics -- they're stupid) and Jackson was amazed at the movie
theater experience.
We sat in the
best seats in the house -- right between the surround sound speakers,
middle of the theater. We shared a bucket of popcorn and vat of Diet
Coke, and really had a wonderful time. The big-screen really is a
treat, and seeing him enjoy it was half the fun.
Afterwards, we
went to McDonalds and got Happy Meals to take home for dinner, which
included a toy from the movie. Jackson ate all of his, and half of
Porter's! Guess movies and popcorn make you hungry . . .
In other news,
I'm splitting time between Oklahoma City and Houston now-adays. I'm
helping transition / wrap up at Dynegy still a couple of days a week,
and the rest of the time (3 to 4 days) I'm at Dobson Cellular in OKC
helping manage a data warehouse engagement. We're scheduled to have
a few milestones over the next 30 to 45 days, so I don't expect to
be out there much past mid- to end-of August. So far the travel isn't
all that bad -- and the free tickets from Southwest are a bonus, too.
And speaking of bonus, my company reinstated the travel pay policy,
so that makes it a bit more palatable, also.
Finally, in technical
news, you shouldn't notice any difference, but I've switched my website
to another hosting company, Readyhosting.com. The other one had a
cap on the amount of space I could use, and I've been having to take
things off the site in order to stay in my maximum. Well, the new
place gives me double the space (which should last me another 3 or
so years at the rate I'm going). And it's a third of the cost (only
$100 / year). It took about a week to move everything over, get databases
set up, switch email, etc. but it was worth the work.
Well, that about
covers it for this installment -- gotta go get a shower while Piddy's
asleep . . .
