Been a long time
since I rocked and rolled . . .
Not really, but
it just seemed to fit the long delay in getting this update in. It's
a long story, but it mainly involves not having an adequate internet
connection for large updates for a week or so -- sorry!
Now, on to the
good stuff!! The first part of this month, as you know, we enjoied
ourselves in Maui, basking in the sun, playing in the pool and on
the beach, and generally having a good time. Check
here for the photos.
We got up early
on Sunday morning and hit the airport ready to go -- the flight left
at 8 and we touched down in Maui at about 2:30 their time. That gave
us plenty of time to get the rent cars, luggage and get to the hotel
with a full afternoon and evening before us.
After getting
settled into the rooms, Katie, Jackson and I met everyone at the pool
for a quick bite to eat and a little relaxation. Later that evening,
Katie and Jax hung out at the room (he went to bed, she ate roomservice)
and I met Myra, Kenneth, Dad and Dan for dinner. It was an alright
time (little incident that I won't really get into, but neeless to
say it was substantial), and Myra,
Kenneth, Dan and I agreed to get together the next day for a bit.
The next morning,
Katie, Jax and I got up, had a bit of breakfast and headed to the
beach! Jackson was a hoot in the sand -- if there was a crack on his
body, sand was in it! I'd say the Jimmy Buffett we both listen to
has definately made him a little sand crab at heart.
That afternoon,
Katie and I just scoped out the local area, headed into Lahina to
survey the territory and do a bit of shopping. We decided that the
group needed 3 scooters, which we rented the next day, and that I'd
get a motorcycle on Wednesday to head out on my own.
Basically, the
rest of the week we spent seeing the island on scooters, by car, on
foot and for me, on the motorcycle. Katie, Jackson and I even headed
'upcountry' to the mountainside and found some really nice little
towns with great food, shops and people.
By the time it
was over we had had a really good time -- but ready to be home. We
got on the plane on Saturday night at 9:30 to head home and didn't
make it back to Houston until 4:30 or so on Sunday afternoon. Long
flight, but like on the way there, Jackson was as good as any of us!
Will we do it
again? Sure! We really had fun, and I'm looking forward to more great
family trips with Katie, Jackson and MaPo.
What's up soon?
Well, as you may know, Jackson's turning 1 on Septemer 1st. Since
it's Labor Day weekend, most people are planning to be out of town,
so we'll wait until the next week to have his 'public' party -- but
we'll party on our own, to be sure!
Katie's also
got an ultrasound appointment on the 22nd of August to find out if
we're having a Ma(deline) or a Po(rter). I'll keep you posted.
Well, enough
for tonight. More later . . .
