The weeks have
been flying by lately and it always seems that I'm missing something
-- or really, just not having as much time as I want to soak it
all in. The past few weeks have brought Jackson's first day of
school at SVDP, Pre-K; a big 4th birthday; start of soccer, and
a time or two down at the beach.
Katie let Jackson
stay out of school the beginning of August, instead of having him
go stratight from Montessori to his new Pre-K class. That gave
them the time to have fun, play, see the sights, and have a little
mom and Jackson time before the start of school. I took the time
to take Jackson to work with me, too, and he really had a good
time seeing what Dad does for work.
Near the end
of summer we started talking to him about his new school, and he
was excited to meet his new classmates in a couple of pre-class
get-togethers. We also had the chance to meet some of the parents
and ask all the burning questions that we need to know in starting
a new school!
Katie went to
the orientation the Friday before school started -- I had to work
and couldn't make it -- and got all signed up for the volunteer
opportunities (snacks, reading, lunch help, etc.); we went to the
'meet the teacher' orientation the second day of school, which
was more informative, I think.
Jackson's first
day of school went off real well, too -- he was very excited to
start, and after quite a few photos, he told us to stop! He is
in the Grizly Bear class, and his teachers are Mrs. Brown and Mrs.
Vargo -- very nice teachers, and reportedly, the better of the
Pre-K classes. I think he had a little bit of a rough spot the
first week and a half, adjusting to the new friends and new schedule,
but we'll keep helping him as he gets used to it.
His first day
of soccer practice was stellar -- he had a great time playing with
all his teammates -- and even scored an assist in the scrimmage.
He can kick the ball very naturally, and has lots of energy running
and kicking. The first game is this coming Saturday.
His birthday
weekend was good, too -- he had a party with his cousins and friends
here at the house, and we had a pirate treasure hunt -- then decorated
cupcakes. We all went to the beach for Labor Day, including Mom
and Row, and planned to have a great time there celebrating the
sun, sand and his official day of birth, but Tropical Storm Grace
didn't agree -- we had to voluntarialy evacuate on Saturday night.
Other than that,
things are going quite well -- Porter is doing all his normal Porter
things -- he is really speaking well, too. Of course, he is becoming
more of a terror to Jackson -- Porter knows all the right buttons
to push to get Jackson screaming; but they play well 90% of the
time. More about Porter later -- he's not being left out of anything,
but it's just a time of year that has been focused a lot on Jackson's
time.
As for work,
I'm out spreading the word on our company's Sarbanes-Oxley strategy
that I basically developed myself -- and getting some good traction
in the market. I am a bit bored, though, since I finished it up.
I've been reworking a training CD that we developed for one client
into one that can be used at another one, so that has kept me pretty
busy the past few weeks, too. I think I need to get back on a project
for a while, though, even if it means
more
travel.
Staying
busy
(and billable!)
is key!
And I'm playing
as much guitar as Katie and the boys will let me -- that is really
the best thing I have ever done, getting back into music with the
harmonica and guitar.
Anyway, more
later, as life goes on...
