Today's the last
day of a nice, long 5 day weekend for me -- I got back home last Wednesday
night and we took off Thursday around noon for Mom's house on the
lake. In addition to it being a long Labor Day holiday, this weekend
was Jackson's official 2nd birthday!
He's truly growing
into little boyhood with this birthday. He consistently speaks in
legitimate sentences and knows a ton of words. This morning, he even
counted to 10 by himself -- spontaneously! Over the weekend it wasn't
uncommon to find him sitting at the piano in the other room, banging
on the keys and singing to himself (or anyone else that would listen).
You'd walk by him and hear him singing to himself, "Moo, Moo
here . . ."
Of course, he's
got that two year old thing going, too, so it's not all easy-breezy.
In the same time it takes him to sing Old McDonald, he can turn in
to the raving little screamer -- crying like he lost a leg or something.
But that comes
with the territory right now.
For his birthday,
we got Jackson a Tickle Me Elmo Surprise and an 8-pack of Play-Doh.
We had our friends
Sara, Eric and their daughter Kiara up for part of the weekend, and
we enjoyed watching Jackson and Kiara play. It took a few minutes
for Kiara to warm up to Jackson, but within no time, they were fast
friends again.
In other family
stuff this weekend, Porter's first tooth broke through on Friday,
so he officially has teeth. I know -- I found it when he bit me! It
didn't break the skin or anything, but that little tooth is pretty
sharp!
He also sat up
for the first time on his own this weekend -- He's still getting the
hang of it, so it will still be a while until he's popping up on his
own consistently.
As for me and
Katie, we just kicked back and tried to relax as much as we could,
while still watching two boys at the lake house. I BBQd on Sunday
and, once again, made way too much food. [One brisket, 2 racks of
baby-back ribs, 3 chickens, one pot of beans]
So now I'm doing
laundry and getting ready for Tulsa -- It was a nice weekend, all
told.
