Well we just
had Jackson's last (for this year) birthday party yesterday, and he
had a really good one! Since his birthday falls around Labor Day Weekend
each year, it is a bit hard to have the big party on his birthday,
so we had one for school a few days early; one at the beach on his
birthday over the weekend, and one yesterday for the family / friends
in Houston. Nice for him to be able to celebrate for over a week!
As I said, we
went to the beach for a week over Labor Day just to kick back and
relax as a family. It was really nice for us and the boys to spend
some time just doing nothing and having a full time of it. We were
able to use Tom's condo at San Luis Pass (between Galveston and Surfside)
since he had taken his in-laws to Disney for the week.
We got down there
on Thursday and hit the beach every morning, and most of the time
each afternoon. After a few hours, the boys were wiped out, so we
took lots of breaks to go back inside, grab a bite to eat, and veg
out. In the evenings, the boys watched some videos and Katie and I
made dinner.
On Friday night,
Mom and Row came down for the weekend, so it was extra special for
the boys to have them down there, too. They hung out on the beach
with us, and Row and I took our gloves and threw the baseball around
for a while in the sand -- which we thought might be the only baseball
for a while, given the threat of a MLB strike. But that didn't happen,
so we get to enjoy big-league baseball for a while more.
But I digress
. . . Saturday night we boiled some shrimp, corn and potatos -- which
was fantastic. We had some trouble cooking them, though, since the
propane cooker that was down there at the condo ended up being rusted
through, and too dangerous to use. We didn't figure that out until
we started, though, so we ended up bringing a huge pot full of seasoned
water back inside, split it into a couple of smaller pots, and did
it on the stove.
Anyway, the time
at the coast was priceless -- Makes me look even more forward to getting
a place of our own sometime.
As for other
parts of life -- Katie is still plugging away at work as usual. She
doesn't seem to talk much about it, but the days she goes to work
seem to be just fine with her. For me, things are about what you could
expect in a tech-wreck economy, but my company seems to be doing what
it takes to get new business and survive. We had to lay off some people
again last week, but after talking to James (our CEO) for a while
about the future, I'm feeling much better about the prospects. We
have a good strong pipeline for sales, and now that I'm working on
biz dev efforts, I think we're in a stronger position.
So that's about
it for this round -- This evening we're going to the resurection of
NFL football in Houston -- The Texans v. The Cowboys. Should be fun!
