Today is Jackson's
big first birthday party! It's a Luau. We got up this morning and
started decorating; I ran to the store to get juices, rootbeer, sodas
and some Corona (for the big kids).
Katie and Jackson
have run off to the store to get the food from Etzi's and the cake
from Three Brothers Bakery -- he's having a cake with a big Aloha
Shirt on it! Anyway, later this afternoon, we'll get the MoonWalk
set up and that will be about it for the preparations. Should be fun.
Last week was
his official birthday, though. We had to wait a week because since
his birthday falls on Labor Day weekend, everyone was planning on
being out of town. Katie, JBug and I ended up going to Mom's house
for the weekend and we invited Eric, Sara and Kiara up to hang out
and have fun. We had a really good time, too.
Friday night
was -- of course -- a long ride to Kingwood, then over to Conroe in
rush hour traffic. Jackson was particularly fussy, but who's to blame
him. So were Katie and I --
But when we finally
got there, we put the kids to bed, popped the Shepherd's Pie in the
oven that I had brought for us all, and started the weekend. We rode
wave runners, went out in the boat, swam around the island in the
lake and I even skied for the first time in ages!
Then it was back
to work and real life --
Anyway, it's
been a pretty good week. I'm still really enjoying work, and Katie
still seems to like her new role as well. Porter is still growing
inside Katie's belly, and Jackson is still on the edge of walking,
and more rambunctious than ever. Lately he's really gotten into having
us read him books, so I ordered about 7 more for him this week from
Amazon.com -- I'm tired of reading the same ones, over and over .
. .
Interestingly
enough, I got a MFIS email from Myra this week that was actually good
-- it's quoted in full in my Random Fun area.
Basically, it's about what it was like for people my age to grow up
-- what we did, and who we were, in a way, in the 70's and 80's. Will
Jackson and Porter have that kind of honest fun? Or is everything
better when viewed in the rearview mirror of 20+ years . . .
Too much to think
about -- I better get going on finishing decorating and putting together
the Island music selections. Perhaps some Buffet . . .
