We've had a nice,
eventful week this week. Over the weekend, we spent some time with
Eric and Sara and their daughter Kiara and we went to our Godson Spencer's
baptism. Starting out the week, we had Jackson's second well-baby
doctor visit, he made rounds with Katie to meet clients and by the
end of the week, he had his first major problem -- and ear infection.
Power
of Houston
On
Saturday, Eric, Sara and Kiara came down from Kingwood to spend the
day with us. We got together around 3 and went to the pumpkin patch
at the farmer's market to pick out some good carving pumpkins and
to take some photos. Good thing Eric brought his camera -- in all
the commotion getting out of the house and to the 'patch, I left all
my cameras at home! That really didn't turn out to be a bad thing,
though. The sun was so bright (shining directly in their eyes) that
the kids really didn't want to take photos there anyway.
So
we packed up our load and came back to our place, and made our own
pumpkin patch in the front yard. We had a great time! Take a look
at all the photos -- even the outtakes
-- in the photo album.
Anyway,
later that evening, we ordered fajitas from Pappasitos, and then walked
over to Rice
University to watch the 'Power of Houston' fireworks and laser
display. It was truly awesome! We had a fantastic view of the downtown
skyline, perfectly framed by the trees of the neighborhood. I brought
a portable radio and we kicked back, looked up and enjoyed the show.
They
ended up staying the night since it was so late, but had to get up
first thing in the morning with their own version of the ear infection.
Oh, well. We all had fun anyway.
Spencer's
Baptism
So
Sunday morning came, and it was time to get ready for Spencer's baptism.
Tom and Laura had asked us to serve as his Godparents, and we were
honored to do so. We met at St. Michael's Catholic Church just before
2:30 for the ceremony. All together, it was Tom, Laura, Taylor, Spencer,
Paul and Linda (Laura's parents), Carolyn and us. Spencer did just
fine -- much more calm than Jackson was!
Afterwards,
we all went over to their house for socializing, food and just plain
family fun. We ended up staying a really long time -- but it was well
worth it.
And
basically, that was the weekend.

Up until last
night, Katie was doing just great. She'd started back to work
and even had a chance to take Jackson to meet some of her friends
and clients. Like I say, up until last night. Well, with Jackson's
fussing, she basically got no sleep. He'd wake up and she would get
right up with him. I didn't realize the short amount of time between
feeding and crying, so I didn't think much of it -- and she never
came in to wake me to give her some relief. Needless to say, neither
one of them got much sleep.
As for work,
she really seemed to like easing back into the swing of things, even
though I know she missed Jackson the days she wasn't with him. But
she did get to take him around and show him off. I told her that taking
him around was just what she needed -- "Here's my little baby
I have to feed. Please buy more bolts!!"

Well,
he is a little charmer! Normally, I wake up each morning to a huge
smile and a bright shiny face -- or, alternatively, a horrible screeching
sound, and the wails of a starving child. Nevertheless, the smiles
come in time . . . Jackson also really pays attention to me and Katie
when we're within view. I never felt so 'good looking' -- but he just
won't take his eyes off of us when we're around. Oh, it's nice to
be loved like that!
He really is
a social boy. I guess you would expect that from the parents he has,
but he loves sounds, people, hustle, bustle and company of all sorts.
He still really enjoys his floor 'dome' toys, but he's getting to
like his swing alot, and he's even gotten in his 'bouncie' chair next
to the computer with me while I work-away. [He'd rather I do work
when he's sleeping, though. He lets me know that.]
Check out what
they have to say from the BabyCenter:
Your baby has
lost his pinched newborn look and appears steady and alert when
held upright. When on his tummy, he's able to lift his head and
chest for short periods, almost as if he's doing mini-pushups. He
might even be able to roll from back to front, or front to back.
He's tuning
in to you more each day. When you speak, he may stop sucking his
thumb or interrupt a feeding to listen to you. Use your voice to
connect with him. Repeat his coos and noises. Narrate your actions
Ñ speaking to your baby stimulates language development and is comforting.
Make him the center of conversation. When you're with friends, include
him and let him hear the richness of human interaction. He'll soon
start to make all sorts of different noises himself.
As for the ear infection,
we called the doctor this evening just after office hours and they said
to come in for a look in the morning. I'm sure it's nothing, but Jackson
is extremely uncomfortable, and I know anything they can do will make
him feel better.

This week's been
busy for me -- Monday was my first taste of life at home with Jackson
and Mommy away at work. In my humble opinion, things worked out just
fine. We walked around in his 'snugglie' and played in the swing --
and then it was time to eat. Katie only was gone a half-day, though,
and then she took him with her the rest of the week, so we'll have
to wait until next week to really get the full treatment.
What's that I
hear? That's him crying again. He slept from about 9 until now, 10:09
pm. Well, I better go see if I can take over and let Katie get some
more rest.
