I'm back in Houston
for a little while -- working the Harrah's gig remotely. I just really
need a bit of time at home! Being on the road for the past few months
has taken a toll on Katie, for sure, and on the boys, too. I can only
imagine how much they missed me, by how much I missed them, and the
fact that when I get home, they both want me to pick them up (at the
same time) and don't want to let go . . .
Katie and I took
a little break over the weekend and went to Sanibel Island, off the
west coast of Florida. It is a fantastic little island with a sleepy
little town, nice shops and good food. We stayed at a place called
Beachview Cottages, which was super! They had bikes for us to use
around the island, and our cottage was right on the beach. We walked
out of our screened-in front porch, and into the sand.
Because of where
the island is located, it is a haven for shells -- tons are washed
up on the shore each day. Katie and I spent part of every day just
walking along the beach, picking up pretty little shells. We ended
up bringing home a whole bag full -- some of which are in a jar on
my desk as a reminder of a more laid-back life. We're also taking
some to Jackson's school class so they can play with them. I think
Porter's class is still in the 'Let Me Eat Them' stage, so we'll hold
off on that . . .
The best part
about the weekend was that we just had the chance to do nothing, and
be together as a couple again. I had a great time with Katie -- and
she really seemed to relax. I noticed that when we got back, the only
things we really argue or squabble about are things related to the
kids -- and that's just out of frustration. I'll try to understand
the stresses more, and I think she will too -- that way we can let
more of it roll off of us, instead of having it overflow into an argument.
Other than that,
it's just easing into the holiday season -- planning on what we'll
be making for Thanksgiving. Myra and Kenneth are going to join us
as usual, and we'll make the regular stuff like turkey, dressing,
broccoli / rice casserole, and pies. Myra is going to do some glazed
carrots, I think, too. I'm sure we'll come up with some other things
at the last minute that we can't live without.
Anyhow, be sure
to look at the pictures of our trip,
as well as the ones from the Renaissance Festival -- they're a hoot.
