Well, it's Thanksgiving
time again -- Of
course that means lots of cooking, visiting and the anual trip downtown
for the Thanksgiving Day Parade!
This year's menu:
Fried Turkeys
(I'm making 2 this year)
Broccoli and rice casserole
Guyerre Au Gratin Potatoes
Foccacia dressing
Gravy
Cranberry Jalepeno salsa
Roasted red pepper and sundried tomato dip
Chex Mix -- an Ed tradition
and the pies -- pumpkin, pecan, and tollhouse
Katie and I got
the kids off to school this morning and then pulled out all the groceries
to start on tomorrow's dinner. Since we're a family of four this year,
things take a little more time to coordinate, so we didn't want to
have to do all the cooking tomorrow after the parade.
Katie did the
red pepper dip and the broccoli rice casserole this morning, then
I stepped in for the Chex mix and salsa. After the parade, I'll get
working on the potatoes and Katie will do the dressing. Then it's
just a matter of frying up the birds, and we're ready to eat!
So, that's the
schedule. We're having a total of 9 people this year, and I think
we'll have plenty of leftovers for the weekend.
Anyway, here's
the detailed shopping list:
Mondavi Chardonnay;
Supersize Ruffles chips; dinner napkins; chicken broth; rasins; Electrasol
tabs; Lipton cold brew tea bags; Lea & Perins; sour cream; whipping
cream; Corn Chex; Wheat Chex; pretzles; jalepenos; frozen broccoli;
tomatoes; rice; olive oil; injecter marinade; sage; minced garlic;
potatoes; Cheese Wiz; broccoli crowns; 2 - 13lb turkeys; Ziplock containers;
kleenex; Mondavi Merlot; rolls; pumpkin bread mix; baking soda; bagel
chips; yougart; gruyere cheese; rissoto; cheese slices; butter; colby
jack cheese; onions; oranges; apples
Total for dinner:
$169.88
This year everyone
in America is sitting down to a different table for Thanksgiving,
giving thanks for a whole different set of blessings -- and our family
is no different. This year has brought so much good in my life personally,
but it is clearly twinged with bitter sweetness given the current
state of the world.
I am blessed
with a beautiful, wonderful, loving wife and she means everything
to me.
I have the gift
of two snuggable little boys that call me 'daddy.'
I get paid to
do things I would do for fun.
I have friends
that care what goes on in my life, and I care what goes on in theirs.
I live in a pretty
little house -- just the right size for me and my family.
And every once
in a while, I get to cook good food and share it with family and friends.
Thankful, indeed. Please take a minute to shoot
me an email to let me know what you're thankful for --
