Well, we're smack-dab
in the middle of the holidays -- the week between Christmas and
New Year -- and it feels like the year has rushed by. Especially
the holidays!
We're off on
Wed to the beach for the New Year's holiday and will stay through
the end of the weekend -- really just a time to get away, get a
change of scenery for the boys, and a time for true reflexive relaxation
for me and Katie.
We went to see
my mom and the rest of the Lee/Oglesby crew the weekend before
Christmas and had quite a good time. The house was full of people
and we did lots of catching up, exchanging gifts, cooking, eating
and playing. It was the first real beginning of the gift-exchanging
season for the boys, and with a few bumps, they handled themselves
well. We still have to work with them on being thankful even if
you got pajamas, when what you really wanted was a toy.
We had to leave
just a little early so Katie could go to the doctor here in Houston
-- emergency clinic -- to have her hand looked-at. Seems she had
some really nasty cuts on her hand -- YUCK -- ended up being a
staph infection, but the doctor gave her some anti-biotics and
they're
doing fine.
The next week,
Carolyn watched the boys for us on Monday so we could do a little
shopping for them and go see some music -- Hadden Sayers and Carolyn
Wonderland -- at the Mucky Duck. Great show!! It was a real treat
-- Had(den) is our neighbor, and we really have never seen him
play. Very cool.
Wednesday night,
Christmas Eve, we had the Mullen crew over for pizza and sweet treats.
Finally got the kids to bed at about 9:15 so that Santa could make
his trip to the Lee boys...
Christmas morning
was full of excitement and fun for us all, and the boys were really
precious -- Christmas morning really is so special seen through
their eyes. That afternoon, we packed it all up for a trip to Nana's
for the rest of the afternoon. This year, we decided that we would
set up Nana's bedroom as a 'quiet area' for whoever needed to take
a break from all the craziness -- and it worked out wonderfully.
No real huge meltdowns, and everyone had the chance to play, have
fun, and recharge when they needed.
This week, I
tried to go to the Heroic Century exhibit at the MFAH twice, without
any luck -- too crowded!! Neither time could I even find parking,
and the line to get in the door was around the building at both
buildings. If it's that bad outside, I didn't want to wager what
it would be inside...
Anyway, this
afternoon I'll probably do a little grocery shopping for the beach,
then it's off to the sand and saltwater tomorrow for the rest of
the year -- and to start the new one off right!
