Well,
'A Motorcycle?' you say. Yep, that's it. A ride.
I
got (back) into motorcycling in February or so of 1998 when I bought
my Triumph Speed Triple from a shop here in town called British
USA.
Since
then, I've really enjoyed getting out of town, riding around our
state's back country roads and just feeling the freedom that comes
with being on a bike.
Per
my wife's orders -- and generally accepted safety practices -- I
wear a full face helment when I ride. It really does make me feel
safer (?) and it really makes for a more comfortable ride when you
are at freeway speeds.
Anyway,
some friends of mine and I got together and ride on weekends, and
a couple of times a year we go on long weekend trips. Tons o' fun!

About my bike
I bought my
bike used in 1998, with just 400 miles on it. Really, it looked
brand new off the factory line.
Here's
a note from a fellow rider in the UK.
Here's what
others have to say about the make:
The Speed
Triple is one of the most distinctive motorcycles on the market
today. Born out of a desire to provide stripped-to-the-bone, no
frills style -- with emphasis on performance and real-world fun,
the Speed Triple remains the favourite of motorcyclists worldwide.
The features of this unfaired bike characterise its sporting pedigree
-- a meaty 180/55 ZR rated rear tyre riding on a 3 spoke 17" wheel,
multi adjustable suspension, sports riding position, twin 4 piston
calipers up front and last but not least, a 97HP engine now mated
to a 6-speed gear box. The Speed Triple has captured the hearts
of many an enthusiast young and old, and has found a strong following
for its single make race series. The Speed Triple Challenge started
in the UK in 1994 with an inaugral race at the British G.P., Donington.
It was so successful an event that the Speed Triple Challenge
Series has been extended to races in the USA, France and Germany
with riders from as far away as Australia and South America taking
part.
What's
Next?
Well,
a little while back, I actually sold my bike -- I hadn't been riding,
since being out of town for work and spending time with my little
boys both seems inconsistent with being able to go for 4+ hour rides
on a weekend afternoon! Anyway, Katie and I are looking at getting
a pair of Vespa scooters in the near-term -- that way we both can
enjoy riding around town, and eventually the boys can ride on the
back with us. I'll eventually get another bike. I told Katie just
not to be surprised one day when I ride home on one -- she said
she wouldn't!!
UPDATE:
February 22, 2004:
Somehow (long story) my bike found her way
back to me. There's still some details I want to make sure of
-- but
the bottom line
is she's in a 'salvage' mode right now, after being abused, stolen
and abandoned. We have a bit of
work to do ...
