What a great time we had on the trip to Smithville 'motocamping'
over the weekend of Feb. 19 and 20. We basically went from Houston
through all the back roads until we got to Buscher State Park, right
outside of Smithville. There's a little ranch there called the Rocky
Hill Ranch where mountain bikers go for weekend rides. They also
have camping, a saloon, cafe and live music on the weekends.
Needless to say, we had a blast. The hamburgers the make at the
Saloon are arguably the best I've ever had. Fully one half pound
of beef on the freshest bun imaginable, with all the fixin's. Delicious!
The beer was cold and cheep and the music was good. Later in the
evening, Bald Eagle and I retired to the campsite, started a fire
and finished off the rest of the junk food and beer we got earlier
in the day. About one o'clock in the morning, I finally crawled
inside my tent and went to sleep.
Up the next morning for breakfast at the Caboose Cafe in Smithville,
then back home by 1.
Quick, but fun. And also, my first time 'roughing it' in over 10
years.
